(M7L) Make Up Artistry - Aqua Fantasy Special Effect MakeUp

1. Competition Objective

The Aqua Fantasy Special Effect Makeup Competition is designed to highlight the boundless creativity, refined technical skills, and unique artistic interpretations of participants. This competition challenges makeup artists to transform models into breathtaking mythical sea creatures and underwater beings, showcasing innovative concepts inspired by aquatic fantasy. Participants are expected to demonstrate creativity, technical skill, and artistic vision through their special effect makeup designs.

 

2. Theme Description

Mythical Marine Realms

Participants are invited to explore the depths of imagination by creating characters inspired by the ocean’s mysteries. Designs should combine the allure of beauty makeup with the transformative power of special effects. Acceptable theme interpretations include:

  • Mythical Sea Creatures: Mermaids, sirens, kraken, or kelpies.

  • Marine Spirits: Ocean guardians, benevolent water sprites, or ancient deep-sea entities.

  • Underwater Beings: Atlantean royalty, coral-dwelling folk, or bioluminescent creatures.

  • Fantasy Warriors: Guardians of the abyss, aquatic gladiators, or defenders of the reefs.

 

3. Eligibility & Participation

This competition is open to both emerging talents and experienced practitioners within the special effects makeup community.

  • Open to students, trainees, or participants as specified by the organizer.

  • Participation is strictly individual.

  • Makeup may be self-applied or applied on another model, in accordance with organizer guidelines.

  • Participants must ensure they meet all eligibility requirements specified by the organizer.

 

4. Time Allocation & Punctuality

Participants must manage their time effectively to complete their work within the allocated duration.

  • Total Competition Time: Refer to official event details for the exact duration.

  • Strict Adherence: All makeup application must be completed within the given time frame.

  • Penalties for Delay: Late completion may result in point deductions or disqualification.

 

5. Judging Criteria

Judging will be based on the following weighted criteria:

  • Creativity & Originality: 30%

  • Theme Interpretation: 25%

  • Special Effect Techniques: 25%

  • Overall Presentation & Impact: 20%

Each criterion contributes to the overall assessment of artistic quality and technical excellence.

 

6. Competition Rules

(1) Makeup Requirements

Participants’ creations must meet the following requirements:

  • The makeup design must clearly reflect the Aqua Fantasy theme.

  • Mandatory special effect elements must be included, such as prosthetics, texture effects, 3D elements, or illusion makeup.

  • Permitted materials include face and body paint, latex, wax, gel, glitters, crystals, and accessories.

  • All materials used must be certified safe for skin application.

(2) Prohibited Items

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Sharp or potentially dangerous tools that could cause injury.

  • Offensive, inappropriate, or culturally insensitive designs.

  • Pre-made full-face prosthetics, unless explicitly permitted by the organizer.

 

7. Model & Costume Requirements

The model and costume are integral to the final presentation and must support the makeup design.

  • Costumes and accessories must complement the makeup and not clash with it.

  • The costume should enhance the makeup while ensuring the makeup remains the focal point.

  • Models must be appropriately dressed and maintain a professional and presentable appearance.

 

8. Final Presentation & Judges’ Decision

(1) Final Presentation

Participants must present their completed makeup look confidently, fully embodying the spirit and concept of their design.

(2) Concept & Technique Q&A

Participants should be prepared to answer brief questions from judges regarding their concept and makeup techniques.

(3) Competition Conclusion

  • No changes or alterations to the makeup are allowed once the competition time has ended.

  • Judges’ decisions are final and non-negotiable.

  • Any misconduct will result in immediate disqualification.

(M1L) Make Up Artistry - “New Talent in Traditional Arts” New Chinese Bridal Makeup

  1. Competition Objective

This competition aims to assess participants’ professional skills in makeup techniques, attention to detail, and overall styling coordination. Participants are required to create a themed New Chinese bridal makeup look that integrates traditional elements with modern aesthetics within the allocated time.

  1. Scoring Criteria
  • Makeup Technique: Evaluation of detailed makeup work, smooth overall lines, distinct layering, and the ability to highlight a fresh and natural style.
  • Creativity and Theme Relevance: Assessment of whether the makeup design aligns with the New Chinese bridal theme and successfully combines traditional and modern elements.
  • Overall Coordination: Cudgement of the harmony between the makeup and the model’s overall styling (including accessories and attire), and whether the makeup complements the model’s features.
  1. Competition Rules

(1) Competition Content

  1. Makeup Theme: Participants must create a New Chinese bridal makeup look emphasizing a fresh and elegant style.
  2. Creativity Restrictions: Creativity is limited to the face; designs must not cover more than half the face. Hand-drawn elements or accessories may be used as accents but should not be overly exaggerated.
  3. Completion Ratio: 80% of the makeup must be completed before the competition, with the remaining 20% finished on-site (e.g., blush, lip makeup, or detailed touch-ups).
  4. Overall Styling: Makeup must complement the overall theme, including suitable attire and accessories.

(2) Competition Time

  • The competition duration is 30 minutes. All actions must be completed within the time limit.

(3) Contestant Grooming Requirements

  1. Dress Code: Contestants must wear the uniform provided by the organizer, paired with appropriate pants and shoes to reflect a professional image.
  2. Hair Requirements: Hair must be neatly styled, clean, and well-groomed. If the hair is long, it may be tied back to maintain cleanliness and professionalism.
  3. Overall Appearance: Contestants must maintain a tidy and clean appearance, without excessive accessories or heavy makeup, to ensure a professional look.

(4) Tools and Products

  1. Required Equipment: Participants must bring their own makeup tools and products according to the makeup requirements. Brand restrictions do not apply, but all products must meet safety standards.
  2. Extension Cords: Contestants must bring their own extension cords; the organizer will only provide one electrical outlet per participant.

 

(5) Prohibited Actions

  1. Use of special effects makeup, prosthetics, or overly theatrical elements is prohibited.
  2. Use of irritant makeup products or those that have not passed safety certification is prohibited.
  3. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
  1. Model Requirements

(1) Model Conditions

Participants must bring their own models. Models must be female with healthy skin, free from significant sensitivities or visible damage.

(2) Model Clothing

  1. Clothing and Accessories:
  • Models’ attire must align with the New Chinese bridal theme, featuring simple yet elegant styling. Hair accessories should emphasize New Chinese aesthetics (e.g., tassels, pearls, or embroidery).
  1. Prohibited Items:
  • Models must not wear accessories or hats that obscure the makeup.
  1. Safety and Hygiene

(1) Tools and Products

  1. All tools must be disinfected before and after the competition to ensure no risk of cross-contamination.
  2. Makeup products must be certified safe and non-irritating to the model’s skin.

(2) Work Area Cleanliness

  1. Contestants must ensure that their workstations (tables and chairs) are tidy, with no tools, products, or waste left behind.
  2. After the competition, contestants should promptly clean up their tools and products and restore the workstation to a tidy condition.
  1. Competition Process

(1) Pre-Competition Preparation

  1. Contestant and Model Check-in:
  • Contestants must arrive at the designated area with their model at least 15 minutes before the competition starts for check-in.

(2) Competition Segment

  1. Competition Start: Contestants have 30 minutes to complete all actions.
  2. Competition End: Contestants must stop immediately when time is up. Any unfinished work will not be counted in the scoring.

(3) Model Presentation

  1. Contestants are not required to move the model. The model should remain standing or sitting in their original position while waiting for evaluation by the judges.
