Formula Description Template

(A4P) Aromatherapy - Personalized Fragrance Design

  1. Competition Objective

This competition evaluates participants’ professional skills in designing fragrance structures, blending techniques, and creative expression using pure natural essential oils and aldehyde-free alcohol. Participants are encouraged to apply their expertise to create high-quality personalized perfumes that meet artistic fragrance standards.

 

  1. Scoring Criteria
  • Fragrance Layering and Balance: Assessment of the distinctiveness and harmony of the top, middle, and base notes, including the smoothness of transitions and overall coherence.
  • Blending Precision and Technical Performance: Accuracy of essential oil and alcohol ratios, adherence to blending standards, and the consistency and stability of the perfume.
  • Creativity and Expression: Alignment of the fragrance theme with the design concept, functionality and creativity of the spray bottle, and the completeness and clarity of the formula description.

 

  1. Competition Rules

 

(1) Perfume Blending Guidelines

  1. Essential Oil Usage Standards:
  • The fragrance must be composed entirely of 100% pure natural essential oils without artificial fragrances, diluents, or non-natural ingredients.
  • Participants may freely choose the types and quantities of essential oils, but the formula must include a complete fragrance structure with top, middle, and base notes.
  1. Perfume Type and Concentration:
  • Perfume type: Eau de Parfum (EdP) to ensure usability and professional quality:
  • Essential Oil Concentration: 10%-15%.
  • Alcohol Proportion: 85%-90% of the total perfume volume, used to dilute essential oils, enhance diffusion, and prolong scent retention.
  1. Fragrance Layering:
  • Top Notes (15%-30%): The initial, light, and fresh impression of the fragrance.
  • Middle Notes (30%-50%): The core body of the fragrance, providing depth and character.
  • Base Notes (20%-40%): The long-lasting foundation of the fragrance.
  1. Blending and Maturation:
  • Essential oils and alcohol must be thoroughly mixed. After blending, the perfume should be left to mature for 48-72 hours to stabilize the fragrance layers and enhance quality.

 

(2) Spray Bottle Design Specifications

  1. Uniform Use of Spray Bottles
  • The perfume must be presented in a 20mL spray bottle made of glass or other safe materials that are non-reactive with alcohol or essential oils.
  • Bottles must be tightly sealed to ensure ease of use and prevent leakage.
  1. Labels and Identification
  • No labels or participant identification numbers are required. Judging will be conducted anonymously based on the submitted perfume and formula description.

 

(3) Alcohol Base Usage Guidelines

  1. Aldehyde-Free Alcohol: Participants must use 95%-96% aldehyde-free perfumer’s alcohol, which ensures a clean and pure scent without disruptive impurities.
  2. No Water Additions: To maintain fragrance stability and quality, no water may be added during perfume creation. Only aldehyde-free alcohol may be used as the base solvent.

 

  1. Competition Process

 

(1) Pre-Competition Preparation

  1. Submission of Entries
  • Participants must submit their completed perfume creations and formula descriptions to the designated location at least 1 hour before the competition begins.

 

(2) Display and Judging Process

  1. Display of Entries:
  • The organizer will arrange the perfume entries and formula descriptions anonymously. Staff will apply the submitted perfume samples to scent strips for evaluation.
  • Judges will assess the scent strips based on scoring criteria. Participants are not required to perform any operations on-site, as all evaluations will be conducted on submitted entries.

 

(3) Retrieval of Entries

  1. Collection After Judging:
  • After the competition concludes, participants may collect their entries at the designated location by 5:00 PM.
  • Participants must present their entry numbers for identification. Any unclaimed entries will be handled by the organizer.

 

  1. Formula Description Requirements
  • Printing Standards: Formula descriptions must be printed on A4 paper, with clear and complete content.
  • Filling Instructions: Templates can be found in the appendix of the rules document.
